Q - Hey there, Isaac! Thanks for dishing out your time to chat with us about your electrifying journey in the music realm. Your ride through the electronic scene has been one heck of a thrill. So, let's rewind a bit, shall we? Take us back to where it all started. What was that game-changing moment that lit the fuse, igniting your passion to dive into the world of DJing and music production?

ISAAC COLDMAN - I was just five when my parents and I strolled through a park in Tashkent. Nearby, there was a spot called "FROM DUSK TILL DAWN", a nod to the film by Rodriguez and Tarantino. Mysterious music drifted from it—a track by Robert Miles called "Children". As I listened to the piano notes, I felt an indescribable sensation, like floating. This track stood out, simple yet magical. From then on, I delved into electronic music, nurturing a lifelong passion.

Q - Tashkent, Uzbekistan, isn't commonly associated with electronic music. How has your hometown influenced your sound, and what unique elements of Tashkent do you infuse into your music?

“Though I'm less familiar with local music, I'm eager to incorporate traditional Uzbek instruments into my future works, bridging the gap between East and West”.

THE CHAOS OF THE UNCONSCIOUS - 24/11/2023 - EXCLUSIVE ON BEATPORT -

Q - Your journey into electronic music began just a year ago. Can you tell us about the moment or experience that ignited your passion for this genre?

FARSIDE - Since I was a child, I've always listened to music of various genres, primarily rap and mainstream music. However, I've always been more fascinated by the instrumental aspects of songs than the singer/s. It was around that time when I started to pay closer attention to the instrumental components. As I frequented various nightclubs, I stumbled upon electronic music, specifically dubstep and techno. It was during this period that I realized that techno was the genre that resonated with me the most. The limitless combinations of sounds that could come together to create a single track had me captivated. What I love about electronic music is the complete absence of boundaries when it comes to creativity and originality in crafting a song. The freedom to experiment with various sounds, rhythms, and electronic instruments allows for a unique, innovative expression in each piece of music being produced.

Q - What inspired you to explore the world of melodic techno, particularly after your visit to Ibiza?

"My experience in Ibiza was one of the most impactful of my life from a musical perspective."

Farside and friends Milena, Allegra, Giulia, Flaminia and Francesco at Ushuaïa - Ibiza

FARSIDE - My experience in Ibiza was one of the most impactful of my life from a musical perspective. Being surrounded by so many electronic music enthusiasts and witnessing performances by internationally renowned DJs was truly magnificent. This experience ignited my passion for music production. Upon returning home, I immediately started experimenting with music production, albeit with limited success, however, my determination kept me persistent. Regarding melodic techno, my passion for it didn't start in Ibiza, but the island certainly played a pivotal role in introducing me to this genre. When I returned to Rome, I began exploring songs from various genres and subgenres of techno, ultimately stumbling upon melodic techno. The first tracks I encountered were from the renowned Afterlife label created by the duo Tale of Us. I instantly fell in love with this genre, and at that moment, I decided to channel my creativity into it to get closer to the professionals in this new genre.

Q - Vintage Music Label is renowned for its groundbreaking releases. How did you end up collaborating with them, and what does this partnership mean to you?

FARSIDE - I recently discovered Vintage Music Label and their groundbreaking releases. Collaborating with them means a lot to me. The reason is that I'm a producer with relatively little experience, and I have a world to explore ahead of me. Therefore, being accepted by a label like Vintage Music is a true honor. Vintage Music Label is offering me an opportunity that I cannot miss, and I hope to contribute to the growth of this label. By sending demo after demo, I discovered this label and its original, high-quality releases, which I immediately wanted to be a part of. I'm immensely grateful to Vintage Music Label for giving me the chance to start my journey, and I hope to not disappoint them.

Q - "The Chaos of the Unconscious" is a captivating title. Could you shed some light on the concept or inspiration behind the single?

FARSIDE - This track seeks to evoke a range of emotions for the listener. The title of the track should imply a dive into the human psyche suggesting a journey through the mysterious realms of the mind, where emotions and thoughts are not always straightforward. However, I must say that the interpretation of the track's concept is subjective and open to the listener's perception.

Q - Can you describe the creative process that went into producing this track? Were there any unique challenges you faced during its creation?

FARSIDE - My aim was to capture the ethereal and somewhat haunting atmosphere, I started experimenting with different melodies and atmospheric loops. The atmos were like layers of dark and hypnotic sounds. The rhythmic foundation was crucial. It represented the heartbeat of the subconscious, pulsating with a hypnotic, dreamy groove. The challenge here was to maintain a balance between the energy and the introspective darkness, making sure one didn't overpower the other. Then I wanted the melodies to be a channel into the soul, conveying the melancholy and depth of the human experience. While the major challenges I have faced during the production of this track was how to combine the dreamy feeling with the dark one. Finding the balance was hard particularly in the break of the track. Another challenge was figuring out the best way to create tension in the buildup but after a lot of attempts I think I did it.

Q - Melodic techno is known for its ability to evoke deep emotions. How do you incorporate your own experiences and feelings into your music?

"I try to use melodies, harmonies, and sound design to convey these feelings, and create a narrative within MY tracks that recreates the emotional journey I want to convey."

FARSIDE - I always try to put what I feel now or during a certain period in the music. I love to recreate the emotions I feel in that moment to let the listener feel them too. I try to use melodies, harmonies, and sound design to convey these feelings, and create a narrative within my tracks that recreates the emotional journey I want to convey. I think that staying true to its own artistry, regardless of trends or expectations, is vital for creating a deep and genuine connection with the listeners.

Q - In your debut single, what elements of dark melodic techno can listeners expect to hear, and how do they contribute to the overall mood of the track?

FARSIDE - In my single, the elements that listeners can expect are mainly pulsating basslines, loops of atmospheric textures, emotive, dark and repetitive melodies with hypnotic rhythms. I think and I hope that these elements all together can create an intense and dark mood.

Q - Many artists have influences that shape their sound. Could you share which artists or musical figures have had the most significant impact on your music?

FARSIDE - Sincerely, I am on the way to develop my unique sound, but I certainly have lots of artists that had a lot of impact on my music. However, I always try to take some aspects I like of an artist track by changing it and adapting it to my track. The main artists that have influenced my sound are Mathame, Anyma, Kevin de Vries, and Mrak. I love each style of these melodic techno giants and the emotions they trigger in me.

Q - What message or emotion do you hope to convey to your audience through "The Chaos of the Unconscious"?

FARSIDE - There are four main emotions that I wanted to inspire.

  • Melancholy: I wanted to create emotive melodies and harmonies that can bring out feelings of melancholy or nostalgia.

  • Darkness: The sounds I have chosen and produced should feature dark soundscapes creating a sense of tension.

  • Energy: I wanted to create powerful beats and rhythms to create a contrast between this energetic drive, the melancholy and the dark elements to create a dynamic and emotionally listening experience.

  • Dreamy: I love to bring the listener into a dreamy state because I think that's basically what so many listeners want. Many people, myself included, listen to music not only for pleasure or entertainment but also to escape and detach themselves from reality.

Q - The single promises a deep message. Could you give us a hint about the deeper meaning you've embedded in the track?

“Dreams are a magical aspect of our lives, that hold the power to inspire, motivate, and achieve greatness."

FARSIDE - The only vocal that I put into the track is the message I wanted to give. "Dreams are a magical aspect of our lives, that hold the power to inspire, motivate, and achieve greatness." Dreams, also intended as aims/goals, are what keep us waking up in the morning. Without dreams or goals, our life has no meaning, that’s why we are always looking for a meaning for our lives; dreams give us the motivation and achieve our happiness.

Farside and his friend Francesco at Hi-Ibiza.

Q - Vintage Music Label is known for pushing the boundaries of electronic music. How does your single contribute to that legacy, and what does it bring to the label's catalog?

FARSIDE- I really hope to bring a different kind of melodic techno to the label, a dark and strong style to enrich the diversity of melodic techno in the label releases. I hope that my single adds a unique dimension to the label through its combination of dark and melodic techno elements. My single introduces a blend of emotional depth, introspection, and immersive atmospheres to the label's catalog, enriching its diversity and reinforcing the label.

Q - What's the most memorable experience or realization you've had during your journey in electronic music so far?

FARSIDE - I think that my most memorable experience is the first track I have ever produced since that was the beginning of my path. That day I did only download some loops and I combined them together to make a nice groove and melody. That was obviously a bad track with almost no creativity behind but that was the beginning, and I will never forget that day.

Q - Your sound has been described as "ethereal." How would you describe the sonic atmosphere you aim to create with your music?

FARSIDE- With the term ethereal, I mean dreamy. As I have already said I love to bring the listener into a dreamy state of mind. I really need a lot of time to create a melody or sounds that can create this feeling, sometimes in hours but sometimes in days. The track should trigger an immersive experience, characterized by a balance of melancholy and energy that resonates with the audience. This ethereal sonic atmosphere reflects my dedication to capturing the essence of a dream, and in my opinion that is a fundamental part of melodic techno.

Q - Are there any plans for an extended release, an EP, or an album in the future, where we can expect to hear more of your unique style?

FARSIDE - Right now, I am working on some projects and some other singles to release, but in the future, I would like to release a full album that is really the expression of my sound. At the same time, I am developing my sound and my style to create a sign of my music.

Q - Finally, what do you hope listeners will take away from "The Chaos of the Unconscious," and what can we anticipate from FARSIDE in the future?

FARSIDE - I hope that listeners will feel the emotions I wanted to trigger them, so the same emotions I was feeling during the production of the single. Then I would really love to create a bond with my listeners because I am convinced that listeners are the ones that can really keep your motivation high and constant.

FARSIDE's debut single, "The Chaos of the Unconscious," is an exploration of the human psyche, a dance through the mysterious realms of the mind, and a journey that captivates the listener with its blend of energy, darkness, dreaminess, and melancholy. As he joins forces with Vintage Music Label, expect a unique dimension of melodic techno that enriches the label's diverse catalog. Stay tuned for more from this rising star in the world of electronic music, as he continues to evolve and create a sound that resonates with emotions, dreams, and the human experience.
